Scalp hair does not grow or fall at the same time; it grows in cycles to allow for constant growth and a head of hair. Transplanted hair behaves in the same fashion.
Transplanted hair starts to regrow around 3 months post-op, the % of growth is small, around 20% and can appear a slightly different colour and texture, on occasions even the direction of the hair can appear wrong….NORMAL
Between 6 and 12 months the transplanted hairs continue to regrow in length giving more fullness to your result.
There are 2 aspects to consider before undergoing a second hair transplant procedure, the donor healing and the recipient growth; it is important both have healed well before entering into another procedure. Even if you are transplanting in a new area “virgin scalp” we still have to think about the quality of the donor area, skin laxity, internal healing. In general it is best to wait at least 12 months.
In short, to give the best healing and growth from your first hair transplant try to leave a minimum 12 months between a second hair transplant. Donor healing is vital if you require any future procedures
